I’m writing this from my Grandma’s warm apartment on Brighton Beach.
I just had a home cooked meal of borscht, latkes and blintzes.
It was delicious and I’m stuffed!
My Grandma is from Kiev, Ukraine and now lives in Brighton Beach (Brooklyn, NY).
Brighton Beach is one of NYC’s micro neighborhoods (Little Russia).
This area is full of interesting characters and it is a great place to people watch.
NOW, I’m so excited to share some news!
I joined VoiceMap to bring you passionate audio tours in areas that wouldn’t be inside your usual travel book.
VoiceMap aims to bring stories beyond the screen from storytellers and passionate locals all over the world.
My first audio tour has been published! It is a walk down Brighton Beach into the exciting Coney Island amusement park.
The video below talks about VoiceMap and how it works.
Here I’m going to give you a visual snapshot of what is it like to walk down this route.
If you were to do this walk it takes about 55 minutes and is a 1.6 miles long.
This route is great for anyone who wants to explore an unusual area of New York. This walk starts at Brighton Beach which is in Little Russia and journeys into the exciting Coney Island amusement park. The route will introduce you to a diverse cultural history full of passionate family stories. By the time the walk ends you can enjoy a snack at Nathan’s Famous Hot dogs. Perks that come with this walk are gorgeous sea views and an escape from the city.
